In celebration of the Women's Month, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) has rounded up 15 women of showbiz who helped put the country on the world map.
On the list are beauty queens, top actresses, and world-class singers whose beauty, talent, and confidence have inspired not only their fellow Filipinas but also the women around the world.
Nora Aunor is not called a Superstar for nothing.
The younger generation may only be aware of her recent accolades from international award-giving bodies—the Asian Film Awards (Best Actress, 2013) and the Premio Della Critica Indipendiente (Best Actress, 2012)—but, in fact, Ate Guy holds the record for being the most nominated and awarded Filipina actress, both internationally and locally.
So far, she has won nine international acting awards, including a Certificate of Honor from the 34th Cannes Film Festival for playing the title role in the 1981 film, Bona.
She is also the only Filipino actress to be honored with a "Nora Aunor Day"—May 21 in San Francisco, California, USA, and September 23 in Kileen, Texas, USA.
