NA4NA group convenes at UNEP

IRIGA CITY —  The University of Northeastern Philippines- Center for Culture and the Arts (UNEP –CCA) in cooperation with the International Circle of On-line Noranians (ICON) and Bicol Experts Sharing Time and Talents (BEST) convened at the UNEP Gym, Friday to share thoughts on Nora Aunor’s significant accomplishment as a great artist and movie icon.

Brought by the common desire to check on the reasons why the Superstar’s nomination as a National Artist had been sleeping in ages, the organizers deemed it necessary to initiate a forum and discuss among the concerned groups La Aunor’s accomplishments that not only propelled her to stardom but brought pride to every Bicolanos in every nook and cranny of the world.

Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino Chairman Tito Valiente served as the main speaker during the said event.

He was joined by other panelists who were also invited to partake of the said discussion.

H. Francisco V. Peñones Jr., National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) South Luzon Coordinator, Committee on Literary Arts served as moderator.

In the discourse, the attendees acknowledged the exemplary contribution that La Aunor gave in the promotion of culture and the arts. Particularly cited were the various movies and projects that propelled her singing and acting career in an unprecedented success.

“Nora Aunor for National Artist” or simply NA4NA, believes that La Aunor should be given due recognition as an National Artist citing the many recognition and honor that she brought to the Filipinos, especially to the Bicolanos.

Born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, La Aunor’s success story started when she won in an amateur singing contest.  Her self-confidence and natural acting capability has caught the attention not only of big recording bosses but also of film producers.  Projects after projects sprouted like mushrooms in her path, making her the most coveted actress of her time.

It then didn’t come as a surprise that she has 17 FAMAS Award nominations under her sleeves and later joined other Hall of Famers after grabbing five (5) Best Actress awards coming from FAMAS. She also received the same honor from the Gawad Urian Awards and PMPC Star Awards among others.

Her exceptional acting was not only recognized in the Philippines but in other counties as well. Proofs were the international nominations that she received from Cairo Film Festival award, Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Asian Film Awards, Berlin Film Festival Award nomination, and a Venice Film Festival Awards nomination, to mention a few.

  3. My understanding of a national artist is that it is an honor or award given to a person that contributed to make the country proud. Nora did all wthat 50 years of service. If its not enough I don't know what is. International recognition she's done that.but why worry about what other country isn't it enough that she made millions of people happy since she was 14 years old not just her songs but her movies. Well, Ms. Nora Aunor you are the one and only , I doubt if there will be one like you again.
